Abstract

The press —printed and digital— is equivalent to a catwalk (of fashion) or a showcase (of merchandise), since it shows the current state of the language in terms of the use of words or, in the case of this research, of “the anglicisms of the sports field”. On the one hand, there is currently a lack of research dealing exclusively with the use of sports anglicisms in the Peruvian press. On the other hand, regarding the writing of raw anglicisms, in most cases the italics recommended by the RAE are not used when the text is written in round or in round when the text is written in italics. Therefore, with the development of this research, it is intended, first, to contrast in the Peruvian digital newspapers El Comercio, Depor and Trome the current use of raw anglicisms in the sports field. Secondly, to demonstrate that the three selected Peruvian digital newspapers don’t apply, nowadays, the recommended typographic highlighting in the raw anglicisms of the sports field. Methodologically, this is a study descriptive, in which, in order to meet the objectives, consultations in the Peruvian digital newspapers El Comercio, Depor and Trome, the Diccionario de la lengua española (DLE 2014-2024) and the FundéuRAE have been necessary. The results confirm that the three Peruvian newspapers register crude sports anglicisms. They also show that the recommended typographic highlighting is applied in a reduced form.
